Characteristics
Grape variety: Primitivo 100%
Alcohol content: 14%
Vineyards location: Marchione district, Conversano (BA), Apulia – Italy
Soil characteristics: limestone and clay hills
Training system: espalier
Yields per plant: 1-4 kg approx
Planting year: the original vineyard dated back to early 1900’s and was replanted in the 1990’s
Harvest: this family run vineyard, hand pick the grapes in the first half of September with strict attentio paid to the selection of the grapes on the vine.
Vinification: with the same attention grapes are carefully selected and re-checked before they are crushed and de-stemmed in the cellar, where they are kept in steel tanks to enable fermentation of the skins. The substances contained in the skins; fruity polyphenols and tannins, help create a journey in the glass. Each step takes place at a controlled temperature
Ageing: In 60 hectogram-litre oak casks for 18 months and in 225 litres pieces for 6 months.
Annual production: only when there is an excellent harvest and then the decision is made to produce  Gioia del Colle Primitivo Vanitoso  Reserve D.O.C. There are currently vintages for 1999, 2009 and 2015 has already been selected for the next vintage
Serving temperature: 18 ° -20 ° C
Tasting Notes
Colour: purplish red, intense and brilliant, turning slowly towards orange with aging, consistent
Bouquet: large, intense, persistent, fine, ripe red fruit and spicy, enriching pleasantly with time
Palate: warm, smooth, quite tannic, full-bodied, balanced, intense and persistent with a final pleasing taste that is subtle and elegant. The aftertaste is pleasantly spicy and harmonious, becoming velvety with aging.
Food pairings: spaghetti with spicy amatriciana sauce, lasagna with meat and bechamel sauce, Peking duck, braised rabbit
Cellaring: up to 15 years if stored at the right temperature
Alcohol: 14.0% vol*
