VARIETIES: Sangiovese Grosso.
PRODUCTION DISTRICT: 50 hectares of the winery’s own vineyards at Fattoria La Selvanella, in the municipality of Radda in Chianti, one of the best in the Classico zone.
ALTITUDE: 330-580 metres above sea level.
TYPE OF SOIL: Prevalence of alberese on the lower part of the hill, and galestro in the higher vineyards.
TRAINING SYSTEM: Spurred cordon.
HARVEST: Extremely healthy clusters harvested by mid-October.
WINEMAKING METHOD: Traditional vinification with at least three weeks of maceration, partly with autochtonous yeasts. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in wooden barrels.
AGEING: This wine has always aged in large oak barrels and then undergoes a period of bottle ageing.
SENSORY PROFILE: Bright ruby colour; pervasive, complex nose, with ripe berry fruit and gladiolus to the fore, over hints of violet and balsam. Savoury on the palate, with elegant backdrop of forest floor and lingering notes of toasted almonds. Suitable for long ageing.
ALCOHOL: 14.0% vol*
